CEO & Co-founder of Gowalla Inc Josh Williams and Scott Raymond Officially declared has declared their acquisition by Facebook and announced services are winding down till end of janauary.
Earlier this report was under mess for users as two names was falling underlimelight for geo-social app acquisition by Facebook, either foursquare or Gowalla .But with twitts of acquisition of Gowalla team has confirmed the scenario.
Lets take tour of both networks, for what they provide as a comparitive analysis
Both are mobile as well web application that allow users to update their location using GPS and Wi-Fi and stay connected with buddies. Badges are earned by users for checking in at locations with certain tags
Foursqaure was started in year 2009 by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadur while Gowalla on 7 March 2011.
In Gowalla Icons has Colorful designed locations icons while foursquare lacks in providing generic graphics and images for icons.
Amendments can be performed to coordinates with venue map can done while using Gowalla. On foursquare Foursquare users are not allowed to do that, for that you will have to contact foursquare team to do that.
Badges like Newbie,Explore, Super Use are given to users on Foursquare while Gowalla they have Spots, Trips, Pins and a Leaterboard.
Another cool feature that Gowalla provides is when you checked-in to several different locations a map will show all the venues with a zigzagging line from one location to another in the order you visited them, In Foursquare it is known as Friends Recent Check-ins while in Gowalla it’s termed as Friends Activity.
It’s a list of all the places that you and your friends have visited in the last few hours.
In Foursquare camera photo icon is displayed while in Gowalla the actual photo as Gravator is shown.
The list of personal list of places and activities, called to-dos and Tips are left on foursquare about different venues that other users to read which serve as suggestions for great things to do, see or eat at the location.
Foursquare has stepped on through release of its verisions such as 1.3, 2.0, 3.0 with additions of more creative and exiting features time to time. While Gowalla is been scooped in its version 3 known as Gowalla 3.
It was reported that Gowalla had raised $8.4 million users and Foursqaure with 10 million registered users till 2011.
Both currently has users from iPhone, Symbian, Android, webOS, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry application. Users may also use their mobile browsers to access.
Gowalla mobile user can acess Gowalla through m.gowalla.com while Foursquare user can acess mobile Foursquare via Waze. Also, there’s another application for Symbian users, named Sym4Square, which is similar to the application for Android, BlackBerry and iPhone but feature phone users must search for venues manually instead of using GPS that PDA applications can use.
